Day 1: Arrival in Trujillo.

Upon your morning arrival in the city of Trujillo, we will transport you to your hotel. Afterwards drive to the Moche ruins of Huaca Del Sol and Huaca de la Luna. Huaca Del Sol functioned as the political-administrative center, and Huaca de la Luna as the ceremonial center of this amazing ruin complex. We will head to Huanchaco, one of the most popular beaches along the coast of Peru for surfers. Here you will see the traditional rafts called the "caballitos de totora" (little horses of totora reeds), used by the fishermen in the north coast of Peru since pre-Columbian times. Our tour will then continue to the Chimu adobe city of Chan Chan, the world's largest city built from that adobe giving the structure a surreal feel. It is sometimes called Ciudad de la Luna (City of the Moon) because the ancient inhabitants worshipped the moon; or La Ciudad de las Largas Murallas (the City of the Long Walls). In size and complexity, it has been compared with Teotihuacan in Mexico, and the ancient cities of Egypt. In 1986, it was declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. Transport back to Trujillo to overnight in your selected hotel.

Day 2: Trujillo – Chiclayo

Early in the morning we take the comfortable public bus transport to the city of Chiclayo located 3 hours’ drive from Trujillo. Up on arrival, transfer to the selected hotel and we start our today’s tour with a drive to Sipan, where the tomb of the Lord of Sipan was discovered in 1987. The Lord reigned over the Moche culture around 200 A.D. and the discovery of his gold-laden tomb is considered one of the most important archaeological finds in the Americas. Our tour will continue to the town of Lambayeque to visit the Royal Tombs of Sipan Museum, where many of the Lord of Sipan riches are displayed. After lunch (on your own) we will make a visit to the 26 pre-Columbian pyramids of Tucume. It was here that Norwegian explorer and anthropologist Thor Heyerdahl discovered burial sites, textiles, and depictions of reed boats, proving that the ancient people of Tucume were experienced sea voyagers and traders, and inspiring the epic cross-pacific adventure he underwent. Pto. Maldonado - Jungle Lodge   4D/3N

Day 1: Puerto Maldonado – Jungle Lodge.

After a reception at the airport of Puerto Maldonado we will transfer you to our office located in the city center. Here you can drop off luggage which you don’t need during your stay in the rainforest, which can be kept in our storage room to facilitate the transport into the jungle.  We continue by boarding our canoe at the port “Puerto de Capitanía” and heading towards our Lodge, arriving after 40 minutes of navigation on the Madre de Dios River.

Arrival at the facilities of the Lodge where you will be received with a refreshing drink made from natural fruit of the season. Your guide will give you the necessary information for your stay and hand over the keys to your bungalow and security safe, followed by lunch and some time to rest until the first excursion.

At 3:30 pm: we depart for your first contact with the Rainforest. Your guide will show you tropical trees, medicinal plants and the exuberant nature of the private 60-hectare-area of the Amazonia. A short stop at a viewpoint where toucans and other birds can be spotted. The duration of this hike is 2 to 3 hours. Back at the Lodge, you can relax at the pool or in the hammocks on the terrace of your bungalow, savor an exotic cocktail at the bar, enjoy a relaxing massage by our qualified staff, visit our shop for a handcrafted souvenir of the Rainforest or head to the riverside to view the breathtaking sunset. At 7:00 pm we can join an incredible “Caiman Safari”. Before dinner, we will leave for a nocturnal boat trip to observe caimans and, with a bit of luck, other animals which populate the riverbank. Lunch, Dinner included.

Day 2: Jungle Lodge Program

Wake up at 5:30 am for some coffee or tea before leaving for Lake Sandoval. Your guide will hand out a breakfast snack for the excursion. 6:00 am: After roughly 20 minutes of navigation on the river Madre de Dios, we arrive at the dock of Lake Sandoval. After a 3 km hike through the exuberant vegetation, we will enter the territory of Tambopata National Reserve, where you will have the chance to admire giant trees, snakes, monkeys (squirrel monkeys, howler monkeys and capuchin monkeys) and various birds (notably the Hoatzin – also known as the stinky bird -, kingfishers and snakebirds). Once on Lake Sandoval, we will navigate in small rowing boats, searching for the giant otters. We will also have the possibility to spot caimans, piranhas and a variety of birds. We will then stop at a rest area, a typical construction for the region with hammocks, lavatories and a bar, where you can eat breakfast, rest and collect your strength for the way back to the landing stage and the continuation of the journey to the Monkey Island. On Monkey Island, about 5 species of monkeys live in the wild. The animals are used to visitors and can come very close. Therefore, it is very important to always follow the instructions of your guide. Return to the lodge for lunch at 1:30 p.m.

3:30 pm: Visit of one of the two lookout towers of Corto Maltes Amazonia, with a height of 20 and 42 meters designed for birdwatching and viewing of other types of animals living at this altitude. In addition, you will enjoy incredible views of the sunset. (The guide will consult the guests on their preferences and adapt this excursion accordingly.) You will then have some free time to enjoy the pool or a massage, get refreshed at the bar or visit our souvenir shop. 8:30 p.m. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included.

Day 3: Jungle Lodge Program

We will taste different tropical fruits of the season and other domestic products (cacao, banana, cocona, breadfruit, noni, manioc, lime, etc.). Next the native family will show us some of their customs and demonstrate their main activities including fishing, hunting and handicraft, all of which were passed on by their ancestors and from various indigenous tribes of the Rainforest. You will learn about some natural products and how they are used to manufacture tools, dwellings, clothing and ornaments, playing an important role in the family’s everyday life. The visit ends with an outdoor lunch, being a unique experience, both for the family and their guests. Return to the Amazonia Lodge.  Recreation/Free time.
